A small, almost absurdly pretty town in a bend of the river south of Prague. A full day, and the best of Bohemia outside the capital.
The Nordkette
Straight up from central Innsbruck to snow and a ridge over the city, with the rest of that day left deliberately free.
Széchenyi thermal bath
The grandest spa in Europe, outdoors even in winter, followed by Buda Castle and the Fisherman's Bastion.
Plitvice Lakes
Sixteen terraced lakes and the boardwalks that run between them, in a small group with entry to all of them. A full day.
Diocletian's Palace, Split
A Roman emperor's retirement villa with a living city built inside it, plus the Riva waterfront and Marjan hill.
Kotor and the Bay
Across the border into Montenegro for the last full day. A short drive, and a great deal packed into it.
